Traineeships and Apprenticeships
Eaton Community College supports students who enter a School Based Traineeship (SBT), a School Based Apprenticeship (SBA) or a Pre-Apprenticeship in School (PAiS) program. These programs all enable students to complete their secondary schooling whilst also completing training within the work place. Under this program, students are both a full time school student and a part time employee, with the same employment and training responsibilities as other apprentices/trainees.
In order to be a SBT or SBA, students must:
- Be a full time senior secondary student in Years 11 or 12
- Enter into a Training Contract with an employer to complete an apprenticeship or traineeship
- Have the school agree to undertake the SBA or SBT
- Have the completed units of competency of their apprenticeship or traineeship included on their WACE
Aboriginal students are also able to access Aboriginal School Based Traineeship or Apprenticeships (ASBT or ASBA).
If students are looking to do an apprenticeship but are unable to find an employer or an employer makes it a prerequisite for you to complete a pre-apprenticeship, a PAiS program is an ideal start. Students will complete a Certificate II whilst also completing their WACE. Under this program, students attend school usually for three days per week, attend training one day per week and attend the work place one day per week. This does vary though depending on the program entered into.
