All students in Years 7 and 8 complete Visual Art as part of their Arts Learning Area rotation. Students choosing this course in Year 9 and 10 will be gaining an introduction to the Upper School Visual Arts course.

Students achieve the outcomes through the key activities of visual inquiry, studio work and art responses.

The course allows for flexibility and input from students as to which areas are to be covered and includes some specialisation. Students will have access to a wide range of materials and will be encouraged to be ambitious in their selections.

Some of the possibilities include:

  • Painting on to canvas
  • Figure drawing
  • Pottery wheel work
  • Ceramic sculptures
  • Printmaking
  • Graphic art including airbrushing
  • Public art such as graffiti and mural art
  • Drawing onto computers using drawing tablets
  • Design development on computers

Students will investigate where and how artists gain their inspiration for their works by researching a range of Australian and International Art Movements. Students learn about art techniques that they can apply to their own artworks to gain greater sophistication.
